Excellent pic. sparky. I've never been that close to one - only ever seen them hunting out in the sea or preening themselves on the tip of Larrigan rocks when the tide is in.
really did keep very still for us and we were really close....mind you we have never seen one before and it did look oily in our opinion,but maybe thats the way they are? your on facebook go to picture penzance and there you will see one of Treeve's pictured there too with a link to wiki which makes fascinating reading, or just go to my profile page and follow from there.
While fishing off the pier many years ago one of these took the fish that was on my line
there was quite a commotion trying to control it - I had to cut it free - I hope the hook
that must been in the fish gave it no problems ......
