Looks like a field mushroom D, (Agaricus campestris) which would make it edible, although i'd never advise it, too many species of fungi look alike. Check out the Genus Agaricus for similar species, http://www.mushroomexpert.com/agaricus.html
Thanks Chris, I'd be too nervous to eat any wild mushrooms anyway even if someone assured me it was OK. I'd have to see them eat one and wait 24 hours! I do often think how much money I could save by picking wild ones instead of shop ones!
