My father was vicar of St John's parish church in Trewartha Terrace from 1956-64. When we moved in, there were long school desk-tops in the attic, as in the front of this photo. We used to use one as a slide when I was a little girl. We propped it against the attic window sill, climbed out of the window onto the top of the second-floor bay window below, clambered onto the desk and slid back into the room. Unfortunately, a passing parishioner called at the front door to inform dad what his daughters were up to, he rushed upstairs with his tool box and unhelpfully nailed down the sash window, thus ruining a perfectly good game!
