Christopher Ludlow (1877-1959) was very interested in Cornish history. He went to the original meetings of the Penzance branch of the Old Cornwall Society (I have the leaflets...) and was secretary of the Penzance branch in the 1930s (I have the papers...). Didn t write where and when on the back though!
If I remember correctly, archaeologists consider this to be a British copy of a Roman design, probably belonging to a wealthy local who imitated a Roman lifestyle. I don't believe the ruin is open to the public, Den; in fact I think the site is covered over for preservation, but don't take that as gospel!
