Humphry Davy Grammar School, pre 1980

An aerial view of the school taken a few years before it closed as a grammar school. This image was used for the back cover of the book Three Score Years and Ten , the history of the School, published in 1980.
Starting from the main school and going ACW: Music room and Pavillion, Language block (behind Gym) Gymnasium. Woodword/DT/Metalwork rooms, Chemistry/Biology labs. Finally the Canteen and Kitchen. Other additions were made and equally the (in)famous huts are out of sight in this photo

Just taken another look at this - the photo is older than 1980 - there was another biology/chemistry block added and something else near the old gym. Also this shows the old pole vault pit - I'd say this is somewhere around 1976?

1b, hut b, 1947, with Mrs Sibson. She was a remarkable woman: even if you sat up straight and gazed at her, she knew you were not paying attention! Doug Powell

Remember the large chimney structure on the canteen being daubed "waste not want not. pick it up and eat it" Referring to a remark by Tom Petters. Doug Powell
