The photographer is standing on the far Western end of the prom, back to the sea / railing, pretty much directly opposite the Beachfield Hotel / Tides Restaurant, but facing halfway towards Newlyn.
You can get a better idea from the third photo I posted on page 1 of this thread, as it shows both the Baths and the Beachfield Hotel.
I believe that the description is wrong, as it wasn't the Café Marina at the time it was taken, only becoming so when the wooden structure (shown in the 5th picture I posted on pg. 1) was added on.
1870 - Beachfield and Gwyll's Row in the top right.
c.1920 - Bedford Bolitho Gardens. Top right is the top of Bodilly's Mill (just prior to demolition?) poking out above the shelter, with Alexandra Terrace to the left of that. Today, this is the skate park.
A snippet of British Pathe News from 1963, showing the 'mining' process, plus the process of making items from Serpentine - I doubt it changed much in 100 years. It helped me understand why they needed that massive steam engine.
@Hedge Slammer I seem to remember in the early 60s that there was a building that had serpentine goods and Treeve said that it was so. This building extension with its serpentine goods could be the one, still there in the 1960s!
