About 40 years ago, a contract that the Drewitts had to prepare was to span a covering slab for the whole of this canal. The survey was an extraordinary piece of work, as there was no way of levelling or measuring other than from the 'road' level. It had to be done on a two leg system, building down to level.
Thankfully, the project never went ahead.
