Darts World Record Attempt

This is a pic of Mugsy (Mal Winters), Paul Ferris (left) and Barry Harvey (middle). These three attempted and were successful in a world record 1,000,001 for 3 players in a 24 hour marathon. This took place in the Star in Penzance. 56 maximum 180's were scored and Mugsy scored 46 of them!

Look who sponsored them.
There were various formats to score 1 million points in 24 hours held in local pubs during the eighties. The Star and the Bath were the usual venues. (At the time the John Dory). I played in three raising money foe different charities. I believe there were two world records in Penzance at one point for 3 s as listed above and a 4x2 8 s version as well. The method used to keep the score rolling over was that one player would throw at 20 s and as he retrieved his darts the next would throw at 19 s. If you left a dart behind in the board you left it for the next player to retrieve otherwise you could end up with a 22 gramme tungsten missile stuck in the back of your hand.
