Here it is all fixed and reassembled.
It took about an hour and was surprisingly easy to do. I also took the opportunity to clean the lens and the mechanism whilst I was working on it.
I would certainly encourage anyone with a steady hand and good eyesight to have a go at fixing their compact camera should it go wrong. Would have been such a shame to have chucked it away.
