Meat, Eggs, Fats (butter etc), Cheese, Bacon and Sugar were rationed. Bread was rationed until 1948; Sweets were rationed. There were unallocated codes in the rear pages of the book, for any other foodstuffs that became in short supply. Without the coupons - no food. Coupons could not be traded off (sweets for fats, or eggs for sugar). Every coupon had a specific date validity, and it had to be taken up in that time, or lose it.
