One of the houses I surveyed and restored ... I have picture to post of it before ; said to have a tunnel to the quay .. that was one legend that was proved to be true, when the tunnel was discovered in the road in later excavations.
I don t, but I know that photographs were taken by the water company when they opened up Market Jew Street. It was something that my uncle was deeply interested in.
I was born in Adelaide Street (No. 24) and my grandmother lived there through all of my childhood. I was told tales of the tunnel and smugglers. Never went inside the Gothic House but I was always a little afraid of it!!
Just remembered, my uncle's brother (my uncle was so by marriage) was Wilfred Pascoe, married to Winifred Carter, lovely couple, lived bottom of Adeleaide Street with her father, a real piece of 'old world' a rascally old gentleman, had a trick of twirling his watch around on the end of a gold chain and with a flick it would drop in his watch pocket.
