Granite paving

The Terrace, Market Jew Street, Penzance - 31st July, 2008
These slabs are truly inspired, I had planned on photographing each and every one, to see what the plan was, and to record them. Tom Leaper has made his own tribute to these down further in the town. When I saw the ignorant yobbish way these old slabs were handled recently I despaired of ever seeing true craftsmen at work ever again. The slabs were damaged and split in places. Show some respect please !!

The roadway was widened and the Terrace formed with masonry. Later granite paving slabs were laid, here and on other pavements in town. From 1826 on The Terrace, and the last was laid in 1834 in Chapel Street. Lamorna Granite. The Terrace Railing was formed in 1864.

Following on from your question, I have just uploaded the in-between stage of the development of The Terrace in 1815.
