Pigs were once tied to the Rex Ricatus market cross in this picture. It makes you laugh to think that folk in those days gave little thought to the fact that this cross is about the oldest artefact that belongs to Penzance s history and may be evidence of blue blood!
 
This just keeps getting better and better. I don t know why but I find the history surrounding the Greenmarket and Market Place fascinating. It might explain why I once paid £35 for a picture of it. A real photograph taken by Gibson Brothers circa 1925
