H.M.S. Warspite

Prussia Cove April 1947.

A sad end to a great ship.
HMS Warspite went aground in Prussia Cove on St George s Day, April 23, 1947. I think this photo was taken quite some time after that date, after much of her superstructure had been cut down and towed to Penzance by barge, as she was almost complete when she arrived, except that her guns had been removed.

I transcribed the date written on the back of the print by my late mother. It could well have been added later and not strictly accurate.

Mercator, comparing this with the two postcards of HMS Warspite I have posted recently it is quite clear that you are correct. It is apparent that there is far less superstructure in this picture.
