Curious is it not. It was a low tide and the sand/shingle base had moved, to expose these timber bases of a landing stage. A number of them running in a line, but not groyne bases as this line is at 90 degrees to the groyne lines. I found some metal bases further along a few months back.

It looks like some kind of monstrous fish to me, judging by the sort of angel-fish mouth! There is also something of an elephant s trunk and head above that. I d say it was a jumbo wrasse! laugh#
