One of the gate post caps. I suspect it originally had a finial. March 2009.
Since the Tripcony family figure in Gulval's history as well as that of Kenegie,
notes on the basic history of Gulval above.
The Ownership and Occupiers is set out on Kenegie - 2.
Kenegie
Gulval: The manor of Lanisley (former name of Gulval) was of the de Als family of St Buryan;
it passed as a gift from Simon de Als in 1266 to the Priory of St Germans.
King Henry VIII granted the lands to Beaumont and Parry and it thereby passed to the Tripcony family.
In 1620 it was in the ownership of Sir Nicholas Hals, presumed descendant of the de Als family.
There being many dispersals and sales, Chancery took an interest resulting in certain personal disturbances;
it eventually passed by suit and purchase to Colonel Onslow son of Foot Onslow in 1737.
It continued in 1814 to be the property of Admiral Sir Richard Onslow, Bart.
