Lady of The Isles

152 ton steam schooner
Built 1875 by Harvey and Co of Hayle.
74 tons net; 130 ft 5 ins x 18ft 5ins x 8ft 3 ins.
Powered by Gardiner 2 cyl engine.
Served until 1904. It is the action of this vessel when the SS Schiller struck the Retarrier Reef that ensured the Kaiser forbade all vessels running between Penzance and Scilly from being attacked by any submarine during WWI. She survived a partial sinking in Lamorna Cove, re-fitted as a Cable Ship for the RN; she then operated as a Salvage Vessel; she hit a mine 3rd October 1940 off Falmouth. That was 65 years of service.
Seen here about 1880 arriving St Mary's.
