Looking up the hill to Geevor Mining Museum - 20Jan10

On our way to Geevor from Pendeen Lighthouse
Near here was what we knew as 'Scollers', actually Rescorla's works which extracted tin from Geevor's tailings. Eventually, as Geevor's extraction got increasingly efficient, they could no longer make a living. There was a little tin pump house or shed of some kind Iwould stop and watch the swallows swooping in and out, on my way back up the cliff from swimming.

The sea used to be red of this coast as I well remember. The arsenic in the sea around there didn't harm you, Chill? ::11:Thanks for some interesting extra info!
See how a name like 'Rescorla' became corrupted! It can also be found as 'Scholler'( not unlike the variation you knew)! Looks more like German but not pronounced like it! No wonder we cannot be certain of the meaning of some Cornish names. In this case, the name comes from a geographical feature. It is likely to be 'Res Korlann' or 'Ford by the Enclosure' but even there, the 'res' element is often a corruption of 'ros' which is 'heathland'.
