Another retailer pulling out of town. What sort of businesses could occupy these buildings under current economic conditions and make any money?

In order that its value would be increased and options for sale improved? The shoe shop next door up is closing, according to the sign; reminds me of Penzance 15 to 20 years ago, every second shop was faced with either a closing down sale notice or with plywood. They were doing a rates dance around town, some of them, but many actually were closing after an initial ill-considered opening in the first place, and closing after just one year; this is not now true of the present situation.
