Market House 1948

For convenience, someone was asking about the arrangements under the terrace.
It can be seen clearly here, with a small set of steps down, with old iron railings.
I was never sure of just what was in that locked cabinet at Sir Humphry's feet.

I have dated this card from the fact that it is a part of a set and one of the cards is postmarked 1950; the others are unused and have similar numbers - they appear to me to be before 1950 and they are Jarrold Crome series, first introduced 1939.

Not doubting the veracity of your info, Treeve, but simply remarking on an inner feeling that this scene must have remained pretty well unchanged for a long time!

I suspect it is less dog eared, too ::15: ; it is very difficult dating some of these cards, but some have a few clues; the worst ones are for the late 19th C as often they were kept for years before sending. I have a few linen and silk cards from the years after 1860 or so when they started to be used. The prettiest ones are the envelope ones that are made of lace, with a smaller card of Love within them.
