Market Jew Street - Old undated postcard.

Any suggestions as to date will be appreciated.
Do not forget that postcards dated after 1940 are still in copyright. What is good about this one is that it shows the original paving on the lower side. Ann Collins not long open. A Morris-minor van parked up by the Terrace

A different view of Market Jew Street. Thanks for this!
Was the flag above the market house really that tall?

Perhaps I'm being over sentimental, perhaps I'm being overly nostalgic, but looking through these old postcards and then seeing how things are today, I can only say what on earth has happened to our town? You forget just how many 'proper' shops Market Jew Street once had. And look at that paving on the left - built to last. Well, to last until someone decided it was time to replace it with mass produced concrete slabs.

Back when this photo was taken I bet people were saying the same sort of thing!

There was a mental shut-down, when those wretched concrete paviors spread throughout towns. Just what happened to the granite slabs has never been revealed.
The present upgrade only proves just how superior the original material and workmanship was. The same is true of any work performed on original sites.

The Morris- Minor van is not older than 1954 as the pre 54 models had a split screen,ie in two parts with a beading in the middle.

Thanks, exile! Living where the Star partly is today in New Street, I well remember the GPO olive-green Morris Minor vans that would park outside the Telephone Exchange. The one in the picture may well be one such. I actually remember that one employee regularly parked his Jowett Javelin opposite, the only one I ever recall seeing!
