Market Place, North (Penzance)

Spot the Difference
Market Place, North.
For a reference point, The archway was The Shambles Market, now 'Simpson's Arcade'.
The town is decorated for Jubilee - 1897.
The stone setts have gone.

Hm... this could be quite a difficult spot the difference quiz! Many things have changed!! laugh#

I have always wondered, did they actually remove all the granite setts when tarmaccing began or just used them as a sort of sub-base. One for Treeve, methinks.

I have seen various areas where tarmac has been breaking up and it shows setts underneath the new finish; curious to me as to why it was necessary, as the setts will last infinitely longer than tarmac (I admit for the most part also a natural product); I noticed this in particular at the old entrance to Tredarvah House (incidentally, I have just discovered another house in Penzance that is faced with the same decorative treatment. That project is widening - let s hope for a swathe of decent weather.
