MV Vega - 4

The ship has been worked by Penzance Dry Dock, to designs by Stolk Marimecs with interior designs by Ken Freivokh Design; A great deal of fine work had been completed, extended, raised, new bridge, new engines, space for snow cats, the interiors are luxurious and well appointed; she was due to be completed as an adventure luxury cruiser 'yacht'; however a 'cash flow' problem began and the ship looks half finished and abandoned, because that, in effect, is what has happened. She was due to have been completed last year (2008). She is currently Under Arrest as a result of non-payment of sums due, from 22nd September 2008 at 236,758.30 GBP, plus interest, berthing fees and costs.

I can only assume that she will be eventually, either for the unnamed Swedish owner or by someone else with a deeper and more flowing pocket; I have been on board and below decks, the whole ship is a wonderful piece of work. At the moment, I cannot see that she will be entirely abandoned for economic reasons - however, the propeller and steering gear will become seized up, and the engines and system have not yet been sea trialed; the electronics, navigation and engineering are beyond top notch, they have been visually and spacially designed. It is possible she could see service after final completion.

@ Treeve, the last estimate I heard to complete, was in the region of 7 million. The only completed section is in the centre of the boat where several cabins have been done, to a very high standard I must say. But the rest of the ship is still a skeleton. There were talks of taking her to Falmouth Estury so as to have more room in the Harbour, I have also heard, because harbour dues are not being paid. She has been there for almost 7yrs, and as you say the engines and gearbox will also have to be stripped and re-built before Lloyds would allow any sea trials.

Thanks for that inside. She must have cost a pretty penny to start and a good deal of investment to date, I would be surprised if she was allowed to rot or be scrapped. She is a going starter for an adventure cruise business, I believe; a number of those on the market, I know, but there are still people with loadsadosh for such ventures and for such cruises. Fingers crossed!!
