Newlyn Fish Market c1910

A rare glimpse of the daily fish trade taken in early 1900's. the area hasn't changed that much over the hundred or so years.
Here's a little bit about from 1907 how the G.W.R tried to speed up the fish deliveries from Newly to their trains
Mr. T. A. Williams, assistant superintendent of G.W.R. visited Newlyn with view of getting the fish carters to go to Ponsandane with fish at five o'clock in the morning instead leaving them at the goods' yard at Penzance. At first they readily agreed this suggestion and thought it would be a great advantage in enabling officials at the station yard to get that place clear for passenger rated fish alone. But on the next morning the fish buyers wired the manager of the G.W.R. (Mr. Inglis) with reference to the matter, and said they could not agree to the suggestion. Mr. Grant. divisional superintendent at Plymouth, came to Penzance the next day, and accompanied by Mr. Williams proceeded to Newlyn. It was then decided to await developments. The Company will do the best they can for the fish buyers at Penzance in the meantime.
It should be pointed out that some of the carters had repeatedly asked to be allowed to go to Ponsandane with their fish, and the Company made this proposal in the interest of the men. They could get to Ponsandane in twenty minutes, whereas in many cases they have to wait an hour outside the goods yard at Penzance.
