Lethlean: The first railway in Cornwall was that between Hayle and Redruth, with links to Portreath, Roskear, Crofty and Tresevean. Passenger traffic began in 1843, with stations at Copperhouse, Angarrack, Gwinear, Penponds, Camborne and Pool; the station in Hayle was at a lower level than present, and the line began along the present grassed area along Penpol, then crossing the drawbridge and passing along the front of the present swimming pool. It is uncanny to realise that trains ran along the route now used for a footpath. This bridge was built 1835 for the railway. Goods traffic began in 1837. The line was closed in 1852.
