One Long Grind

The determination and application of these men is evident, as they prepare the old hull, for work in finishing off the change from ex ABS to Emma Louise TO50, in Newlyn Harbour October 2008; they are working off a small floating platform, using an extreme version of wire brushing, very noisy and very dangerous work, at any time a flake of steel or paint could fly off.
Needle gunning has been a standard way of removing paint/rust for years, noisy yes, dangerous no. Interesting to see that they are not wearing goggles.

So much so that it is a favourite track of mine on Hawkwind s Chronicles of the Black Sword - Needle Gun.

By the way, as for it not being dangerous, tell that to the man, on a site in London where I was working, when he was taken to hospital with a shard of rusty steel in his hand; after that I insisted on at least welders gloves and a face mask being used (long before the HSE took over).
