Oystercatcher

Not very many of these off Penzance itself; mind you I have never seen one running after an oyster. We seem to get about six or so off the Promenade.
When I was at HDGS we used to see flocks of oystercatchers feeding on the school field. Must have been at high tide I suppose.

They do tend to roost and feed on large grassy areas - the roundabout by BandQ was a good place to see them. They divide into those that know to break the holding muscle and those that break the shells open, in order to get inside the bivalve mollusc. They can be recognised by the fact that the brute force ones have damaged beaks.
