On The Island at St Ives, on the site of earlier forts from 15th century, these gun emplacements were built; Palmerston forts were built over the period 1890-1910, which fits in with the partial demolition of the chapel of St Nicholas. The Coastguard Lookout is positioned in the higher emplacement.
