When did the Castle an Dinas quarry finally close exactly along with this works? I remember feeling aggrieved that Portuguese cubed cobbles were used in our town instead of Penwithian granite ages ago. More recently it was Bodmin granite used in Market Jew Street, wasn t it? If only granite were to have been used in Causewayhead, by the way. I realise that money has dictated all along. sad#
ARC pulled out of castle-an -dinas in the early eighties, when Penryn granite took the quarry over and quarried on a smaller scale. As for using castle granite for paving,i dont think the stone is the right quality for that purpose.
