Nr 55 Chapel Street, built for John Batten c1838, magistrate and merchant, owned by Louis Deschamp of the French Telegraph in 1881; 1891 it was Perrow's Temperance Hotel, and later The Regent Hotel. Telephone Nr 146. This picture 1894.

I ve worked for all of the owners of this building over the past 30 years... it s going to be turned in to offices... what a waste sad#
 
I still say it is better to have the building preserved in one way or another, and used, than to have it rot away or pulled down because rates were too high, etc .. Provided it is all done with its heritage kept intact.
