POLTAIR built 1802
Another name than Bolitho gave us Poltair Mansion; built by Richard Hichens ‘of St Ives’, Trustee of the Daniel Charity of Madron; born 14th Dec 1742 son of Richard and Agnes Hichens; married Margaret Veale of Trevaylor, they had nine children; he died 16th Nov 1815. He had a strong friendship and business relationship with John Scobell a mason and builder of East Stonehouse. Richard Hichens was noted as ‘of Trengwainton’ in 1775. He then moved to Poltair around 1785 (owned by Thomas Daniel of Truro, Robert Maxwell of London and Richard Lawrence of Budock), described in 1787 as ‘of Poltair’; in around 1800 Richard Hichens acquired the land of Poltair and his Poltair Mansion finished about 1802 (presumably built by John Scobell's firm).
