I only popped in this shop on Tuesday to see if they had a lens in stock. Thursday and they have closed!
This town is fast becoming a ghost town!
Unbelievable, isn't it? You just don't realise just how many shops have closed down until you see them all together in your gallery. We live in sad times indeed - I wonder how long it will be before high streets become unrecognisable - or cease to exist completely?

There is a strong rumour that one of the largest bakeries (local to Penzance) is considering filing for administration. And we thought that the credit crunch was behind us sad#

Mmmm ... well I guess we have a numbers of bakers in Penzance - and all after the same customers. I wonder if we'll see or perhaps the answer is to see the return of more traditional 'specialist' shops? Lentern's is always busy when I've been in - and Thornes too. And I imagine the cobbler's shop up Arcade Steps has the monopoly on shoe repairs in the town. To plan for the future, it's always good to look to the past for guidance.

I don't think it is possible to trade here without a huge profit margin. That isn't possible because of consumer demand. Right now I'm imagining those bread lines of the 1930's making a come back.

With the the state of the world's economic situation at present, it does make you wonder if this is the beginning of the end and in 50 or a 100 years time, when modern civilisation as we know has possibly collapsed, people will look back at our time and say, "that's when it's all started." Many civilisations have come and gone and their demise has often centred around corrupt politicians, wealth, power-lust and greed. And we've certainly seen plenty of that over the past few years .....

Hey, it's not all doom & gloom - we've got a shiny new Sainsbury supermarket on the site of the heliport to look forward to! I mean, what does a town need with transport links when another supermarket is available? Regarding shoe repairs, tab, there's "The Cobbler's Last" in Causewayhead which appears to be ticking over steadily (let's hope that's not the kiss of death!)

Ha ha trust you BoP! ::15: Am I right in thinking that Sainsbury and Cornwall Council have fallen out over road alterations?

Well just in case things go pear-shaped in a big way and society does collapse, I'm in the process of building a bunker complex deep underground in our back garden. The store room area will hold enough water and baked beans for 5 years, and of course, the whole thing will be powered by methane .... lol
