Indeed, Matrioshka (babushka) dolls. Been 'with us' for over a hundred years. I have a set from Moscow and another from Kiev, quite different. Iryna Bilyk tearfully sings of her grandmother in the beautiful song 'Oma'.
Babushka is the endearment term for grandmother.
