I was standing on 100 year old timbers, with later planks, but the ground below was hollow and with void, like a lot of 'modern life'. A certain degree of soft footing was necessary; the old ramp was at the base of the wall of the pier. It is seen on the old pictures in this album. 10th May 2009.
