It appears to have been built as a Market House around 1815, later used as a Drill Hall and then converted in c1914 into a Cinema.
Some very poor additions in 1937 of The Palace Cinema have been removed and the building is now very sensitively restored.
However, there is still work to be done in the way of cleaning down and the removal of ironwork, as well as repairs to faience and pointing.
