This base of a former cross shaft is splendidly decorated with a typical celtic knotted motif and was, I understand, found integrated in the wall when the plaster was removed.
Very skilful those masons. Its just as hard to do this kind of work in these days despite the power tools we have to ease the work.
 
I believe there was a Celtic church here before this church was built, many of these stones were part of the old celtic church and used in the new building.
