Interesting photo which confused me. St Pauls was boys only when I was there and I didn't realise that it became mixed. Anyone any idea of when this happened?
Unless I'm very much mistaken, St Paul's was still boys-only at that time (it certainly was when I left in '77) and I think this is probably a combined St Paul's / St Mary's arrangement (St Mary's being the C of E school near the prom). Perhaps other members can clarify...
St Pauls became a mixed school with the first year intake of either Sept 77 or 78 hence the older years are boys only. The old roman catholic school on St Mary's St. was used as an additional premises to incorporate a larger population until the new school at St Clares was used a few years later.
before ww2 there was an annual festival of choirs involving all the local schools and was held at St John's Hall, it was discontinued during the war years and never reinstated ....pity ...
