The Abbey

This lane was less significant until the Oxnam family moved to the land opposite, and ships drew in the new quay below. The slip was New Street Slip until after 1845, as New Street pre-dates Chapel Street.
We saw this being painted only a few days ago....before the heavy rain!!! and we were commenting on the lovely vibrant colour!.....and remembered the uproar on a painted house in Clarence Street!

The same happened in St Ives a number of years ago ... what the Planners had forgotten was the paint can be changed, as long as the fabric remains, fashion for colour changes. The building in St Ives has returned to being less flashy .
