The building of Tesco

This picture shows the construction of Tesco. You can still see Bruno's bar and by this time it was a night club. I think this picture was taken in 1998 Supplied by Di and Den
Prior to it s demolition it was called Smiffys owned by Dave Smith. we played there a few times with the band. He still owes me a lot of money from when he went to the wall!! sad#

Funny that Sparky put a comment in the furom about the gentleman s club about this... he went to the wall because of bad business decisions and the fact that he thought he could haggle with the giant Tesco. BTW Denamor.. piped and built on top... as far as I know planning has already been passed sad#

Why on earth does megalomaniac tesco s need to be bigger than it is now :!:  Ponsandane Brook has been altered and messed around already, it is a shadow of its former self, a diaphanous vestige, it s pining for the fjords ... I sincerely hope that the water is not simply to be piped ... there are a number of water birds that use the stream and banks still.

Just read HH .. what hope is there for our landscape? our nature? The Enemy is at the Gates .. and they have brought their weapons of destruction inside. Money talks, I suppose.

I m afraid I find that more and more nowadays, money does talk, and woe betide anyone who stands in the way!

I know... it’s a shame. Tesco purchased the land earlier this year and plan to expand to match Morrison’s.... So long as we use supermarkets this way they will continue to consume the land around them... I have always been raised to believe that supermarkets are cheaper than local shops, but I challenged that thought about 2 years ago, and although I still use supermarkets I shop mostly with local shops. It s surprising how better the quality is and the competitiveness.

The trouble is in the faster moving day and age, more and more people depend on supermarkets and they know it, I prefer veg etc. from local shops but as a matter of convenience I buy from supermarkets unless that is I m in town.

Personally, I don t see where the cheaper comes in ... gas guzzling 4WD vehicles to collect the weekly groceries? Then the expense of keeping a large freezer running to keep it in. I walk to a local shop, and bring home what I need for a few days, I have a small freezer, it keeps me healthy with exercise and fresh air. And I don t have to trail around a noisy bing-bong hello shoppers environment, squeezed through aisles after aisles not being able to get what I want and then face swarming traffic.
