Channels and pockets are being excavated in the viaduct road. I am surprised to see that amount of soil, which looks to be filled with foundry waste? I do not know if the frames are iron or steel (Pierre Martin process); delamination is common in early work, especially where damp conditions prevail. If the road has been excavated without regard for the prevention of the intrusion of rainwater, that may produce problems in the future. Delamination reduces the strength and bursts off any surrounding concrete or associated structures. 24th January 2009.
