A new building was erected in 1862 by The Cornish Copper Company to house the new customs offices; it remained thus only until 1889.
The warrant for handling customs was originally held in St Ives and after much heated argument it was transferred to Hayle.
The building is now owned by Hayle Harbour Management Ltd. It was taken over by Hayle Harbour in 1988.
Features of the building, namely the 'quoin' moulding may be seen on other buildings in Hayle, offering perhaps an idea of dating and designer to the rest.
