This drawing based on an original etching of the old Market House of Penzance shows the scrolled ends of the eaves which may be compared with those of Botallack Manor and two old houses in St Just Square which still exist. I drew this to illustrate an extract translated into Cornish from Penzance's history ('Reminiscence of Penzance') which dealt with the commandeering by youths of the fire engine then in use in the 19th Century which received servicing each year on Shrove Tuesday.
