The Post Office at the Strand/Street-an-Nowan.

There is another good photo of this elsewhere on Picture Penzance. The name of this lower area of the town, Street-an-Nowan, is derived from the Cornish though this may be assigned to either 'Stret an Oghen' (Oxen Street ) or 'Stret an Avon' (River Street).
Information : This building was provided at the expense of the Harbour Commissioners when the harbour was undertaken by then in 1884, and the building was erected to provide accommodation for The Admiralty (at their specific orders) as a condition of the harbour commission being granted, to house lifesaving equipment and rocket gear to be used on ships in danger, as well as for the Admiralty boats; it is thought that this building was completed in 1886. There is a mark with an anchor incised in a block of granite set in the ground, which has recently been re-exposed and preserved by the Harbour Commissioners.
