The Promenade, Penzance

Hand tinted
When the Promenade afforded just for what it was built, to enjoy a walk along the sea front in peace. Queen s Hotel with its fine porch as well.

Also no sea defence .... funny thing just sprung to mind. If this is a hand coloured postcard then what did they stand on to take this photograph

These were days before cherry-pickers, and I doubt that someone balanced on one of the light poles. What they did have was a telescopic timber frame on the back of lorries (or asa separate unit, towed behind the truck) to reach lights and eaves, etc. Wound up and down on a ratchet and rail. I would have imagined they used one of those.

Springing thoughts Nr 2 ... it could well be that the photographer took the opportunity to get this picture whilst the jack frame was being used to fix the lights?

OMG! a little light hearted humour going on here then.... wait until Sparky hears of this laugh# laugh# laugh#
