Taken sometime in the 1930s Looking down towards The Beach fields Hotel and Cafe Marina on the prom. You can see just how busy the area was. Buses bringing people to the prom. picture by Mike Gendall
Looking at this picture, shows in one sweep just what has happened in Britain today.
I have just noticed that this was actually taken at the time the shelter at the bottom of Alexandra Road was bing built; the roof timbers are clearly visible.
Interesting to see that's one of the places the sea comes over the prom today (top left).
Any idea what that object in the sea (roughly same place) is? The one that looks like a giant with his head just above water with his arms in the air. Isn't there a legend that a giant (or possible giants) once lived on St Michael's Mount?
@tabtab13..there used to be a sort of diving platform just off the beach...one had to swim out to it when the tide was high
it was a busy little place when I was a child not only could you rent deck chairs but paddle boats too.
There was a boat builder named Joseph Legg who rented rowing boats by the hour off the prom near the bottem of morrab road
all his boats were named after ships of the Royal Navy there was a parictular heavy punt named The Hood ....
