The large house, at the top on the right here of New Street ,was once a private home, No.1 but is now part of the Star Inn. It was said to be the Chief Rabbi's house (since there was once a synagogue tucked away behind, later to become the chapel of the Plymouth Brethren). I lived there with my family during the 50s and 60s, and my mother lived there until the 1980s. The hairdresser (shopfront) just below replaced the business of Mr Nicholls, the Saddler, when he retired.
