The Wherry Town pipework

I know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't resist it. Thinking that no one was looking I snook down to take this picture of the inside of the water pipe. However, you can see that plenty of workmen inside the pipe were surprised to see me as much as I was to see them.
I knew the shingle had advanced, but to see the line of just how much on the steps wall is quite something.

Why do you reckon the pipe is so big? this is a massive construction for such a small stream:confused:

Problem is that there are occasions when it floods, after a bad rainfall .... the upper brook has bottlenecks, and if there is a blockage (more than likely) which suddenly breaks, the lower reaches are in for a pasting. They cannot afford a blockage here (as they have been getting occasionally) ...

A culvert was built there back in the 60 s by Conoley and Co perhaps it should have extended further seaward

That concrete jobby had a very small inlet, and so was often getting blocked.
