I always thought the title of that Four Tops/ELO/Joe Walsh song was 'Turnstone' when I've just found out it was 'Turn to stone'!!! Some people just do not enunciate their English properly and clearly, do 'em?
Boxing Day 2008 we were walking along The Wharf at St Ives, eating our Willy Waller's blackcurrant and liquorice ice-cream (a good winter-warmer), and the turnstones were everywhere darting around between people's feet seeking crumbs. Much more endearing and far less threatening that herring gulls at face level.
