Waves Cafe closed 22nd December 2008!!

Perhaps the last chance to see the inside of Waves the cafe in Causewayhead. Closed Monday 22nd December 2008 as the credit crunch takes a grip on Penzance! As far as I can remember this cafe has been trading since the demise of the Bendix laundry perhaps 15 years ago! Perhaps some one can fine tune that date please.
Can t fine tune it but I think it has always been in use, I think it was a cafe before Bendix but I m not sure. I know the lady who leased it for the summer, it may well be leased out again.

As treeve said this was once SWEB many years ago... I thought it was then taken over by Bendix after that. Are you saying that it was a cafe before it was Bendix laundrette?

Not too sure but if you read my coment on the other pic on waves I was there from 1960, I m sure it was something before Bendix maybe I m wrong about a cafe, someone will probably put me right laugh#

In 1935 it was still The Penzance Electric Company; I don t know when SWEB came in. It was another cafe at some point, the name will invade my mind at some inconvenient point!

Anne Marie s Tea and Coffee shop ... my wife used to go in there for Toasted Tea cakes.

South Western Electricity Board was set up January 1948. (State run, privatised by Thatcher, bought by Southern in 1995). They were in Market Jew Street at the time of the Parker s fire.
