John Edmund Ludlow (1919-2006) of 19 Penare Road in 1940 - called up in 1939 into the Dorsets - served until 1945 (ending as Staff Sergeant) - one of the original member of the 1st Airborne (before it was the 1st Airborne!) - ended up in REME
This well-worn carving is of the insignia of Penzance - the severed head of John the Baptist - and is built into the facade of the Art School at the top of Morrab Road. Sorry about the poor picture - a mixture of a dull day and having to dodge the traffic...
